Essay On Changes In America

Barack Obama once stated, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” It is easy to say you want change but what actions are you portraying or committing to go about these changes. In today’s society there are a lot of African Americans having the desire to change and make this world better, but are too afraid of taking that risk. We as a race were always taught to never take a risk on new things, but to go with what we are best familiar with. I believe it is time for us to stop living in that mindset and learn to take risk, even if that risk is not successful. We as blacks could be so powerful, and could possibly change the world if we just took one chance in life. It only takes one person to make that change. If I were granted …show more content…
But, I can say we have come along way. However there are still some things need to work on as a race. It is time for us as to come together and stop this inequality. Every single person has the opportunity to be treated and giving the same opportunity as any other person. We should not be judged by our color but by the content of our character. Every race should put themselves in the our shoes and feel what we go through based on the complexion of our skin. It is also time for us African Americans to come together as whole and start back fighting for our rights as a human. We are so much against each other we can not even focus on our own success. We rather go and support some other race than our own. Then, we wonder why other races treat us the way they do. We wonder why our voices are not being heard. We wonder why our government declassify us. If we just came together as one we could be so successful. That’s why I will ensure every black individual voice will be heard and I will make sure that we are treated

When Thomas Jefferson was president in the early 1800’s he believed that all men were created equal. It wasn’t until December of 1865 that the 13th Amendment was passed, ending slavery and making every man, woman, and child equal. While this did end slavery, it also caused problems that would negatively impact African American families for several decades, even to this day. In Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13th, she uses compelling statistics and several qualified narrators to educate her audience on what life has been like for African American families and shows how they have been “criminalized” by society, even after the 13th Amendment was passed.…

The fight against inequality is a fight that the black community has fought for several years and has still failed to win. Hearing that the number of black men under the control of the criminal justice system today is greater than the number of captive slaves in the year 1850 angers me. To know that the black community is constantly targeted by the society which is supposed to be set out to help them is only focused on destroying them scares me. I trust that we must expose the injustice set out before us by the criminal justice system in hopes of one day being able to truly advance. There are more black men that are felons than any other race which limits them to crappy housing, lack of education, and poor paying jobs.…

In 1865 slavery in the United States of America ended, and since then the Black Community has been told to: get over it, move on, and, “leave the past in the past.” Since 1865 this country has taken steps toward making “improvements”; in the year 2008 we elected our first President with brown skin! Is that progress or what? Has the United States of America, the land of the free, home of the brave, and the place where all were created equal, left its race issues in the past? As much as we would like to keep our rose colored glasses on--the land of the free has not changed as much as one would hope since 1865.…

It is an uphill battle but who said it isn´t a winnable one? Standing up for what you believe in is what makes you as an individual a role model. And we are longing for numerous role models that can take a stance for what they postulate in nowadays. When you stand up for what you believe in it's not just for yourself but for others who can't or are too terrified. During the days when segregation was happening the blacks were unfortunately appraised diversely, but were too petrified to take a stance for their being.…

When African Americans knew that they were being treated unfairly, Martin Luther King JR. put a stop to it by speaking out to America and showed that it was wrong. Now look how far we came from that point in America, we had our first African American president not too long ago. That just shows that America may make some bad choices, but eventually someone will stand up and say what we are doing…

My understanding of freedom has changed and deepened since the first days’ classes when taking notes on my individual freedom and societal freedom. Historical changes over time and specific events and developments such as the Colonial and Native American early period have fought, articulated, and transformed the freedom many have come to take as granted. Close to the start when Christopher Columbus "discovered" America in 1776, in reality his exploration lead to the conquest and colonization to land already home to millions of people. This did however begin a pivotal moment in history that affected the Old and New World, with changes that are still current today. Along with the conquest of land the differing views of the Indians and Europeans opened different contradictory interpretations about freedom especially within religion, land use, and government.…

Sometime, I believe the existence of life is just a tragedy. It is not what happening to my life or to those around me that effecting me deeply – it is the external forces that I have no control over or the inability for me to make a different to the situation. Every day, I see bad things happen in the world, especially the thing that happen to the innocent children and the unborn babies. Granted, not all babies are cute or healthy when they were born, but nonetheless, they are innocents. Why do they have suffered at the hand of the adults: the one that created them, the one that meant to take care of them, the one that support to sacrifice for them?…

This chapter highlights the true challenges that African Americans have faced for centuries, and quite frankly they are still encountering the harsh realities that keeps us improvised, powerless, and neglected. White conservatism has dominated the nation for years and African Americans have struggled severely at the hands of European colonizers who invaded their land, enslaved and exploited them, and forced them to embrace the dominant white conservative values, norms and beliefs. Furthermore, this nation was built on the blood, sweat, and tears of African Americans; however, there has been very little to show for it. Our legacy has been the rudiments of slavery while White conservatives transfer their wealth and stability from one generation…

Progression is what African Americans has looked for since slavery times and progression is what we’ve gotten. Yet, we have overcame a plethora of heartaches and being treated badly for what we have thought if it was another year and not 2015. Taking a look back into the Civil Rights Movement and how history is repeating itself now with the BlackLivesMatter movement, as you read the history books about the Civil Rights Movement and you’ll see the base of how blacks and whites couldn’t use the same bathrooms and not drink from the same water fountain but it was so much more than that my culture was being ripped and thrown away so much to the point we didn’t know who we were as a community this is why we fought for our rights I believe we would…
