Casablanca is a movie set in December 1941 in Casablanca, Morocco before the United States was involved in World War II. The characters were fictional but the events display the role of Europe during this time frame. Casablanca was an important city as people wanted to escape Europe for America. Casablanca centers around Rick Blaine who owned the popular night club where refugees would purchase their letters of transit to travel freely in Europe and eventually freedom to America. The film also portrayed concentration camps where Victor Laszlo was held were he endured a painful experience as a prisoner. The movie also depicted control as Nazi Germany as they were influenced in the French Government.

Victor Lazlo was a Czech nationalist who did not agree with Germany taking over Czechoslovakia. As a resistance leader, he would do anything in his power to defeat the Nazi. He a good man who deeply loves Ilsa, as he was willing to sacrifice himself so Ilsa can escape Casablanca.
Captain Louis Renault provides some of the most comic lines in the movie. He represented the Vichy government who was a servant to the German government. He expressed loyality to Major Strasser but it was an act to so they would not suspect him of part of the resistance. He had to follow the commands of Major Strasser by arresting Laszlo and closing Rick's bar to show allegiance. In the end of the movie, he shows his alliance after Rick kills Strasser and he commits to the
