The five colonists that were killed were Crispus Attucks, Samuel Gray, James Caldwell, Samuel Maverick, and Patrick Carr. It started when one winter night, a few of Prestons men were getting ice balls and snowballs thrown at them. Colonists were daring those soldiers to shoot and were calling them dirty lobsterbacks. Some colonists were even grabbing at the soldier's uniforms and trying to pull the guns at out of their hands. Then someone yelled the word fire. Guns were shot and five colonists were killed. Later on, Captain Preston and his seven men were accused of murder. Colonist, John Adams represented them at their trial. With all of the evidence, I believe that Captain Preston was innocent of murder. Colonist, Robert Goddard was standing behind Captain Preston when the shooting happened. Goddard said that he heard the captain yell fire. Despite the testimony of Robert Goddard, many other colonists at the scene saw Richard Palmes standing with his hand on the captain's shoulder. Palmes was Adams leading witness. When Palmes saw the riot happening he went over to where Preston was standing, put his hand on his shoulder, and asked him if he was going …show more content…
They claimed that the Governor asked him why he shot and the captain responded with “I had to save my sentry.” However, when the Lieut Governor was asked he said that when he talked to the captain he could not hear his response because of the commotion the mob was making. Another witness saw Preston getting aggravated with his soldiers and telling them to stop

Justice and Liberty go hand and hand with Crispus Attucks whose death was the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. It was a time of social, political, and economical tensions in the Colonies of America with their oppressor Great Britain. Americans were wanting to escape the tyrannical control that Britain had over them. The British taxed the Americans without giving them any representation in Parliament and all of the taxes went to Britain and not America, the country they were trying to build up themselves. During this time white Americans hated the British and also hated anyone that wasn’t of their race.…

The trial of Captain Preston written in shorthand print of his testimony was demonstrated as: "Nay, so far was I from intending the death of any person that I suffered the troops to go to the spot where the unhappy affair took place without any loading in their pieces; nor did I ever give orders for loading them(Hodgson)," conveys his intent. Captain Preston never gave an order to the soldiers and never wanted blood to be spilled. Also, this eyewitness account of the British perspective, asking the soldiers is illustrated as: "On my asking the soldiers why they fired without orders, they said they heard the word fire and supposed it came from me. This might be the case as many of the mob called out fire, fire, but I assured the men that I gave no such order; that my words were, don't fire, stop your firing. In short, it was scarcely possible for the soldiers to know who said fire, or don't fire, or stop your firing (Charles Edwards and Richardson)," shows that it was misheard during the riot.…

In 1764 the Sugar Act was enacted to raise tax revenue in the colonies for England and it increased the duty on sugar imported from the West Indies. However, the colonists were accustomed to having their own colonial legislatures creating taxes, so they fought back when Britain tried to control them. In 1765 the Stamp Act mandated the use of stamps on certain types of commercial and legal documents. The purpose of this tax was to raise revenue for the new military force, but the colonists did not want to pay for an army they did not ask for. The Townshend Tea Tax placed an import duty on glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea in 1767.…

The ‘Boston massacre’ was more of a tragedy or self defence by the British soldiers in a way that the colonist brought murder to their own people. Although we know this event for a bloodbath caused by british soldiers, there is enough evidence to prove it was not their wrong. If the colonist were not throwing snowballs or insulting the soldiers we would not have this date as a major event in history. As the crowd grew bigger it caused the British soldiers to panic. The red coats were innocent, and would have been at fault in any way they would have handled the situation; either by the court or their captain.…
