The U.S Women’s National team won the 2015 World Cup held in Canada. The U.S team defeated Japan 5-2 in the Cup finals. The previous world cup finals the U.S.A women were defeated by the Japan team. This was the first world cup win since 1999 which the United States hosted. Within the 1999 tournament the United States Women placed 3rd over China.
Some highlights from the game were that Carli Lloyd scored the fastest hat trick in world history. Her first goal was in the third minute when Megan Rapinoe launched a corner ball and Carli Lloyd ran through the box and scored. Lloyd’s second goal was in the fifth minute when Julie Johnston took a free kick and Lloyd nailed the ball into the net. Her third goal was scored in the 16th minute with a kick from over 50 yards away. Though many goals were Lloyd the other two were from Lauren Holiday, and Tobin Heath.

The end score was 2-2 and Japan won in a shoot out. This previous game and outcome caused an outcry for a rematch. The rematch delivered results and surprisingly happened in consecutive World Cups. Two teams of the same country had never made two World Cups in a row before. Thus it created even more buzz when the U.S.A played a different type of game and won almost effortlessly.
Within this game Abby Wambach retired from her 14 year long professional soccer career. The U.S.A forward currently holds the record for both male and female goals scored at an astounding 184 goals. Abby had played in both the 2012 and 2015 FIFA World Cup’s. At the end of her career she had 252 international appearances, 2 olympic gold medals, and ended as U.S Captain. Abby Wambach was on the U.S National team for over 8 years and helped pave the way for young female soccer
