In the last 100 years, there has been lots of wars going on that involve the United States, in which we use all of our military. Some of the people who fight are young high school dropouts. High school dropouts shouldn’t be forced to join the military. Making people join the military violates their constitutional rights. The United States needs well educated people to enroll into the military. The military needs people who want to learn and make something out of themselves. I think high school dropouts shouldn’t be required to join the military.
Even if the United States is running low on soldiers, people shouldn’t be forced to be drafted into the military. As a U.S. citizen you have the freedom to choose your career. The military funds given to them for college would be useless (Joyner). In fact, dropouts can’t attend college until passing the GED (Joyner 2). The GED is not as good as a high school diploma either. A person would have a tough time getting a job with only a GED. Only 8% of applicants were accepted without a diploma into the military before getting their GED (Schmitt). Once they were accepted they then had to pass and obtain their GED.
The military is needing people who are smart, people who can be responsible for their actions, and people who want to continue to learn. The military also needs those people who want to fight and stand up for their country. The military needs people that are willing to be there, not people that are forced to be there.
