A report done in 2012 shows that approximately 9.3 million people ages 12 to 20 years old admit to drinking alcohol within the previous 30 days prior to the survey. Of those tested, 30 percent admitted to binge drinking once, if not more, in that amount of time. About 20 percent of those students met the requirements to be considered alcoholics. Eightteen studies about how to prevent adolescent and young adult age drinking are considered in this journal, only fourteen proved to be productive. The authors say that “while this review reveals various effective interventions for reducing alcohol use among college students, more research is needed” (42).
