Essay On Being An Educated Person

Since the first day of class, we have been discussing what it means to be an educated person and what qualifies you to be one. There are so many answers to that question and everyone will have a different point of view about it. An educated person can be anyone who just graduated high school, a doctorate student, or even a college dropout; the possibilities are endless and there is not one straight forward definition of what an educated person is. To me an educated person is a person who is engaged in the world, open to accepting new thoughts and ideas, and is willing to learn from past and future experiences as well as educational opportunities. First is me being able to become engaged in the world and my surroundings. I try to practice being engaged every single day in ways such as reading “The Economist” when my brother sends it to me, being engaged in the classroom when the professor is teaching, or engaging in social activities with my friends. I try to engage myself in everything that is going on, not only pertaining to my life, but in the world. I believe that if I am not engaged in what is happening around me then I am not living in a realistic world. As well as being engaged in the world that comes with being open to new thoughts and ideas that are presented. If you are a closed-minded person, then you can not be an educated person in my view. You need to be able to be accepting of other people views, other cultures values, and open to listening to thoughts that you do not necessarily agree with or believe in. I personally try to be as open-minded and accepting as I can be; regarding other peoples cultures, political views, and even personality differences. I have noticed that the more accepting I am, the better mood I will be in and the better day I will have. Being close-minded can lead you to be ignorant and end up ruining opportunities you are offered later in life all because you are not an open-minded individual. I believe that my points are key to becoming an education person; a person who is engaged in the world, open to accepting new thoughts and ideas, and is willing to learn from past and future experiences as well as educational opportunities. My views have gotten me to a point in my life, that I have realized what I need to do in order to achieve my end goal and be successful in life. Not everyone will agree with my views, but it does not matter. What matters is that I believe in them and I implement them in my every day life so I can consider myself to be an educated
