At a young age my father always told me, “Whatever you do, big or small, do it well or don’t do it at all.” I apply that quote to everything I encounter in life. My dedication and determination of becoming a pharmacist has blessed me with numerous opportunities that have helped mold me into the young woman I am today. While in elementary school, I attended a science camp at Meredith College. Fifteen girls and I were invited to expand our knowledge of science. The camp was one week long and taught us the basic skills of conducting research. We also were taught and performed a dissection on a crayfish. This science camp is what initiated the love I have for science. A few years later, in middle school, I attended a camp at International …show more content…

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

I started my exploration process by thinking about the possible career opportunities that I may want to pursue in the future. The three careers I decided on were a pharmacologist, a veterinary technician, and a medical scientist. I used BLS.gov, Monster.com, and Google to find out the pros and cons of each career choice. Using BLS.gov, the website for the The Bureau of Labor Statistics I learned that the average wage for pharmacists in Virginia is $125,500, that they have a projected 3% growth in jobs in the next decade, and that I would need a doctorate or professional degree to become one. Medical scientists in Virginia have an average wage of $82,240, a projected 8% growth in jobs in the next decade, and also need a doctorate or professional…
