Some jobs require more than a degree or a diploma; they require a passion, and being a chef falls into that category. Anyone wanting to be a chef must be passionately in love with food, cooking and ingredients. Much like scientists they must be willing to experiment with ingredients and expand their creativity. However, these alone cannot make you a chef; you do need a degree or diploma in the field.

What else is required to become an accomplished chef?
Learn as much as you can during your interaction with chefs and teachers. Be attentive during practical lessons as you can pick up techniques by observing and listening, that you might not find in any book.

In jobs where you need to work with your hands there is nothing like getting hands-on training. Internships are an excellent way of honing your skills. It lets you watch actual chefs at work; you can learn techniques and master the art, just by being around them. Depending on the specialization you choose pick a restaurant or a pastry shop to work in, while you are undergoing your academic training. Working on weekends is good enough too. It gives you a good head start over your batch mates because you'll have your experience as well as a degree/diploma to show when it's time to get a job.

Will I become a chef immediately after finishing my training?
