A behavior analyst must pass the BCBA exam to be considered a certified behavior analyst. This certification is recognized throughout the United States and will allow you to practice as a behavior analysts in most states. The caveat to this will depend on where you elect to practice will depend on if a license is required.

The first step is to obtain an undergraduate degree within any profession. It is preferred but not required to have a degree in psychology. The next step is to complete the coursework from an accredit college/university with a master degree in psychology, and a concentration in Applied Behavior Analyst. In addition to the coursework, 1500 supervised hours are required and can be acquired while completing the coursework. Lastly, a comprehensive exam is required. Prior to the exam, all steps must be completed and verified. Afterwards, an application must be submitted in order to be eligible to take the exam. ( BCBA OPTION 1.n.d.). Kaplan is a great place to obtain a master degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. Kaplan offers just about everything a person would need to assist them in becoming a behavior analyst except for job placement for supervised hours. Your advisor can suggest some area to concentrate on, but is unable to place you with a trained supervisor in the field.
