The first matter at hand would be to contact the potential employee. Explain without going into detail that their background is questionable about a prior employer. Hopefully the potential employee will be able to substantiate if it true or false. As the Manager a request would be given to bring in some type of court document that would clear up the matter. If the matter was from something they may have happened as a juvenile same rule applies show proof. As the Manager the company would like to hire the right person and make sure if there is some type of question about the individual background it is cleared up if possible.
A background check can be done on anyone for free or for a fee. Just remember when a request is made for anywhere that means you get just where the individual put they reside and worked. This will allow a person to get real records. Some database companies fail to tell the consumer they are getting either nothing or marginal information. It is important also for business to check out who they are employing to conduct the background check. The bottom line is to be able to benefit from the background check and to try to keep everyone in a safe place as possible. Background checks are a necessity to us all.
