Ayahuasca is a psychedelic concoction that is used by the indigenous people of the Amazon basin. It is brew consisting of the Banisteriopsis caapi plant and Psychotria viridis plant, which is rich in DMT. The Monoamine oxidase(MAO) inhibiting harmala alkaloids present in the Banisteriopsis caapi vine allows the DMT from the Psychotria viridis to become orally active.
