The texts I have studied uncover both the emotional and intellectual responses catalysed by the experience of discovering thus enabling one’s transformation or personal growth, which consequently leads to greater understanding of ourselves and renews our self-perception. This is demonstrated in Michael Gow’s play(1960), ‘Away’ and the short story, ‘Superman and Paula Brown’s New Snowsuit(1955),’ by Sylvia Plath. Both the text associates with war, with Away set post-Vietnam war and the short story regarding pre-WWII. Both texts share the idea that material possessions play as a stimulus for the discoveries of the characters. Contrastingly, they respectively explore the notion of healing in ‘Away’ the foreboding arrival of war in ‘Superman and Paula Brown’s New Snowsuit,' which would bring about destruction.
