Our flag has flown for over 100 years, effectively promoting our Australian Identity on an international stage. It represents our country, our systems of government and virtually everything that we are. People often argue that the flag doesn’t represent all of Australia’s culture. This however, is wrong! The Southern Cross, situated on the right-hand side of the flag, not only refers to our place in the world, but is highly significant in Aboriginal mythology. In addition, thousands of Australian soldiers, sailors and airmen bravely fought under the current flag for our freedom. In what form of respect would it be to change the flag now? Furthermore, it has flown at every Olympic Games to date, as a symbol to spread our national pride in our sporting achievements.
