Atticus is an interesting person who has different emotions and characteristics throughout the book. At times, Atticus is a humble person. He has decided that he is going to defend a black man, Tom Robinson. The people of Maycomb constantly voice their opinions, but Atticus does not change his mind. Atticus describes; if he does not go through with defending Tom he would not be able to sleep because everyone deserves a fair case. He cares about Tom’s life and is humble for not giving up on him because he is a black man. Now that Atticus decides to defend Tom Robinson, Mrs. Dubose gives Jem and Scout a hard time about their dad. Jem gets defensive and furious when people call their dad names for defending Tom; he then decides to cut down all …show more content…
Dubose, he makes Jem follow through with their agreement that they made together. Although Atticus is a humble person, he is also known to be moody and expresses many different emotions through a period of time. After Mrs. Dubose died and Atticus explains to Jem about her background Jem got really sad, he cried and Atticus was there to comfort him. Atticus lets him cry in his shoulder and was supportive. Later on Aunt Alexandra comes to live with the Finch’s and disagrees with Calpurnia’s decision of bringing the kids to a black church. Atticus on the other hand, enjoys hearing about the trip. Jem freaks out at Aunt Alexandra for how she expresses her feelings toward them going with Cal. Atticus does not like how Jem is acting and goes from enjoying the story to yelling at Jem, his mood changed just like that. Finally, at times Atticus can be driven and determined. Atticus showed the town that he is going to do everything to protect Tom Robinson. He is determined to give him a fair trial and allow nothing to get in his way.
