When I first came to Bryn Mawr College and visited Thomas Great Hall, I was stunned by this somewhat humorous statue showered by colorful gifts. Athena was covered up by decorations, food and cards and she was wearing a sunglasses indoor. One ISO assistant told me she is Athena and I was later realized she is the goddess of our school. My first impression of the funny looking statue makes the image of Athena more close and friendly. Different from the noble treatment did in the past, Athena in Bryn Mawr does not seem to stand high above in the temple. Its display at Thomas Great Hall is accessible to students to make offerings. However, her placement in the corner makes it less recognizable for visitors who are not familiar with the school tradition. Thus, she is somewhat hidden from the visitors who are not a part of the Bryn Mawr community. It is good on the one hand that it makes Athena special to Mawrters, but on the other hand the tradition cannot be well understand by outside
