Animal testing is inhumane and violates animal rights for many different reasons. First of all, testing on animals can lead to broken bones and chewed up body parts. “However, in the meantime, the monkeys were in terrible shape. Some had dislocated bones. One monkey had chewed off parts of every finger on one hand” (Geraldine woods). Animal testing should not lead to half dead animals and animals that can't even live on their own anymore. With that being said, animals are getting nerves and bones cut out of themselves to see how it would affect them. “Monkeys had nerves cut in one or both arms. Animal testing has now moved to the point where researchers can’t even put the animals to sleep anymore because they cause them so much pain. This especially true for the animals that have to suffer severe diseases because they suffer so much. “Many experiments caused pain. Until the late 1840ś, researchers used no anesthetics (drugs that numb the body or bring on sleep). So animals that had been infected with a disease or that had been operated on suffered greatly” (Geraldine Woods). Geraldine woods wanted to inform his readers about animal testing and how they do not sedate the animals before having tests done, so they have more pain heading their way. Without sedation during testing, animals are exposed to more pain. We obviously do not want people or animals in pain, but some people feel that animals should be used for testing because of the similarities they have. Animals and humans share a lot of the same diseases, so we can use the results from these tests to create new medications for different illnesses. “Most animals and humans share a lot of illnesses so they can act like models for different studies of different animals” (Animal Research Info.).
