Anabolic Steroids and Their Legality in Sports and Civilian Life Should anabolic steroids be illegal? The answer lies within technological improvement and scientific discovery. Steroids are just a technology that humans invented to better themselves physically with little extra work added on. Before steroids, records were just barely better than average. After scientific discovery and the creation of steroids, records started being shattered and actually becoming something hard to reach. Technological improvement and the quest for scientific discovery has grown enough. This is the reason that many forms of athletic competitions started having drug tests. These drugs tests would sometimes find a trace of anabolic steroids in the athlete’s urine. Any form of performance enhancement found in urine during a drug test would be cause for disqualification from that athletic competition and possibly future competitions. Even after steroids were made a controlled substance and were a new means of disqualification from athletic competitions, previous steroid users would speak out defending the form of easy muscle growth and performance enhancement. One of these celebrities that spoke out on behalf of steroids and their capabilities was Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger said that “It was what i had to do to compete. I have no regrets.” Schwarzenegger made this comment in 1996. Then in 1997, a former german shot put champion underwent a female to male sex change.
