This is Chris Kyle’s autobiography, much of which was derived from personal diaries throughout his life. These excerpts were eventually developed into a book with the help of his friend, Jim DeFelice. His qualifications are also made evident by the US military commendations he received which include: two Silver stars, five Bronze stars with Valor, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation.

In the book American Sniper, Chris Kyle served as a Navy Seal Sniper in Iraq, racking up a total of four military tours. Chris died along with his friend Chad Littlefield after taking Eddie Routh, who was a veteran with PTSD and Schizophrenia out to a shooting range. He shot both men, killing them before fleeing to his sister’s house where he admitted the murders to her. It is ironic that both men had shared text messages at the range about watching each other's backs and calling Routh crazy. Four months after Routh had been arrested, he told the sheriff that, “I was just riding in the back seat of the truck, and nobody would talk to me. They were just taking me to the range, so I shot them. I feel bad about it, but they wouldn't talk to me. I’m sure they've forgiven me.” Chris Kyle is buried in Texas State Cemetery in Austin, his legacy not soon forgotten by those whose lives he saved and who he knew
