Older Americans Act of 1965 The Older Americans act of 1965 (OAA) was formed in 1965 to assist the elderly. The atmosphere in this agency is much warmer than in many government facilities. On October 26th this agency was under staffed, however the lady answering the phones and giving out information was very friendly and helpful. The APS is an office located at 1110 E 7th street in Joplin. It has just 1 small room off to the side and a sliding window to check in at. This is primarily just a location to follow up on calls to the 1-800 number to report elderly abuse. It is manned by a woman with a degree in Sociology and Psychiatry. The Senior Center in Carthage, Mo. Is located at 3rd and Lincoln Street. On October 23 at 3:00 the center was closed due to a meeting they wereJoplin, Mo. It has food every day for seniors and numerous recreational activities for seniors, including Bingo and Pool. It also does not appear as regimented as other government facilities.

In closing, there are many other services available for the elderly than mentioned here. There are numerous additions in employment and financial areas, as well as many others. A person needs to just spend the time, do the research, and find out all that is available in their perspective
