Abortion Don Marquis Analysis

Imagine you are sixteen and in high school at a party on a Friday night. There is alcohol and you decide to try some, you think it’s just all fun and games until some random guy starts getting a little too touchy. You are intoxicated and no one is around. You wake up at your friends house receiving the horrible news that you have been raped. A month later you learn you are pregnant with a baby that was not your choice. Do you think abortion should be legal? “Abortion is when a pregnancy is ended so that it does not result in the birth of a child. Sometimes it is called ‘termination of pregnancy’. He states in his essay that abortion is seriously wrong, except in unusual circumstances. (“Don”) There are only a few circumstances that Don Marquis feels are acceptable to have an abortion. Marquis believes that if you get an abortion you are taking away a human life that is capable just as yours is. Abortion deprives humans of life. I agree with Marquis when he states that abortion is only not seriously wrong in unusual circumstances such as rape or if the baby has little to no chance at survival. Abortion is an important topic in today’s society because in 2016 people from younger age groups are ending up pregnant with no chance of taking care of the baby, this results in child abuse and neglect. It is very easy for me to oppose abortion because I am not in this decision making process, the answer always boils down to the mother and her decision making choices. If abortion is the only chance at a mothers survival then it should be excepted. Rarely do you find a women who has been raped and impregnated that keeps the baby and is actually happy with the choice of keeping the child. Often women who are raped and are carrying the baby of the rapist have emotional trauma and for the most part that is very
