Essay On A Haunted House

Decent Essays
HAD ALMOST convinced herself, that there was a logical explanation for the strange occurrences that were happening in the house that her parents’ had recently purchased. So, when she was awakened once again by the sound of bumps and thumps echoing madly through her bedroom ceiling, she decided to do what any ten-year-old girl would do — she threw the blankets over her head and covered her ears.
Unfortunately, covering her ears only muffled the sound. She could still hear the bumps and occasional thumps, and the noise was so loud that it could easily wake the dead — but not her parents. They were sleeping soundly in their bedroom down the hall, far from the noisy disturbances.
The first night it happened, she darted down the hall to her

The sounds she heard were not creaks and clatters, nor were they moans and groans, they were bumps and thumps that were coming from above, and the only place above was the attic.

Although she had never seen the attic, she remembered what one looked like in her grandparents’ house. Not the most pleasant place to be, but nevertheless, it made her quite curious. The cobwebs, critters, and the dusty sheets draped over objects, reminded her of an evening in a haunted house.
She knew that the covered attic treasures, were nothing more than ordinary household furnishings, however, there was a story behind each and every one of them. The rocking chair with the worn, embroidered seat cushion, where at one time, a mother sat and rocked her crying child to sleep. A rusty bird cage, once the home to a family of finches. The grandfather clock with the missing chime, and the suit of a sailor, who sailed the blue sea, long forgotten and hidden away in a confined space of an attic.
She let out a heavy sigh, and thought about the confined space she was in. How silly of me, to be hiding beneath the covers, on such a dreadful hot night. Whether I have the covers over my head or not, I can still hear the

A cat, a rat or a bat? A dog, a frog, or a snake? A fairy, a goblin or ghost? A witch, a warlock, or an elf? A vampire, a dragon... a sprite? .......or is it the boogie man?
Ophelia quietly laughed at the thought. She didn’t believe in fairy tale characters, and she surely didn’t believe in the boogie man.
Even if he did exist, he would never hide in an attic, he always hid under a bed or in a closet. So, what am I frightened of?
She wasn’t frightened of mammals or reptiles, unless of course they had an appetite for humans. She wasn’t afraid of birds or insects, but she was afraid of unexplained sounds in the night.
She turned and glanced at the small clock on her night stand. As usual, it was half past ten, and just the beginning of the bumps and thumps that would continue well into the midnight hour. Of course, there were moments of silence and she’d slowly drift back to sleep, only to be awakened once again by the ghastly lullaby.
Another night of the noise was too much for her to bear. She had no other choice, other than, to investigate the noise in the attic. Maybe a small, helpless animal was trapped, hungry, and scared. The thought made Ophelia frown. She loved animals and would do everything she could to help

However, the humorous fact that the sound easily penetrated through the downy feathers brought a good-natured smile to his lips, and with a resigned sigh, he threw the pillow onto the floor and sat up. From across the room, Tom yawned loudly, a sleepy smile spreading across his face.…

However, the characters refuse to address their emotional struggle because technology plays a main role in their culture. The Seashell Radio’s use is most apparent in Mildred: The thimble radios tamped tight, and an electronic ocean of sound, of music and talk and music and talk coming in, coming in on the shore of her unsleeping mind. The room was indeed empty.…
