Essay Of Delegating

When I think of delegating to other members of the health care team I get specifically think of the delegation an RN gives to CNA’s. I am concerned about the CNA rejecting what I am asking them to do and that they will not do what I ask properly or effectively. I also am concerned that they will resent me for making their job harder by giving them more tasks to do when they are already busy. I also struggle with the idea of the tasks that I should delegate to a CNA and deciphering between the things that I should just do on my own or to delegate to a CNA. There is definitely a need for delegation but finding the right thing to delegate and to the right person is hard. I feel that as a student it has been the hardest because the CNA’s don’t see you as a authoritative person who can delegate tasks to them and in a lot of cases the CNA will try to pawn of tasks to the student that …show more content…
I feel that I have seen or heard a lot of nurses talk about CAN’s in a way that gives a bad name to delegating to them. Whether it would be their unwillingness to do a task, inconsistency with performing a task, or the lack of time and knowledge. In order to conquer the perception of poor delegation between the RN and the CNA in my example, open communication will be key. The relationship with between the RN and the CNA needs to be built on trust and communication so that effective, safe care can be provided to patients. Some abilities that I think will help me expand my delegation is that I can be a take charge person and a leader. I have been in a position in a past job where I was a manger and had to learn how to delegate tasks to co-workers. I think that when I am a working RN, my past experience of being a manager will help me with my delegation. I just need to find the confidence to be an effective delegator and I think that will come with
