Firstly, I do agree that the addictive substances like nicotine should be made illegal. For the main reason that nicotine causes more harm than good. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, and other breathing problems. Despite the government only allowing smoking in some areas, most people will experience second hand smoke when they are young. Because nicotine is so addictive, it can make younger people start smoking, and it can also affect the individual inhaling it, mainly children. Since this drug has become ingrained to our society and is socially acceptable. Just look at how many Starbucks are located in Texas alone! There are over 600 Starbuck stores in Texas, and over 2,000 stores in California. While caffeine is considered a drug, the side effects of caffeine aren’t as harmful when compared to the long term effects of cocaine and heroin. Short term effects for cocaine range from narrowed blood vessels; erratic and violent behavior, to heart attack; stroke, seizure, coma.
