Essay: Is Closing Campus Housing Prior To Parade Day?

Was closing campus housing prior to Parade Day an ethical decision on behalf of the University of Scranton administration? The standard students see it as the university punishing all students for the acts of only a few; not getting the opportunity to participate in a cultural tradition; along with students being customers of the university and losing out on the college experience. The administration viewed this as a way for the University to avoid excessive drinking; lewd behavior; violence; vandalism; sexual promiscuity; and many more things from happening on campus. Because the campus closes prior to Parade Day, this action could leave the students’ in greater danger following activities. They may not have safe transportation or a safe place to sleep because of the campus closing. Students now because of the closing of campus are more likely to sleep in cars; go home with others that live off campus that they may not know; and drive drunk to a place to stay. When looking at these reasons alone the standard student would see pain, the absence of pleasure, from the decisions of the administration. The administration uses Parade Day as a way to not claim responsibility for the actions of the students, and to avoid the repercussions of their actions, by closing down the campus.
