Everyone who will ever live will face adversity due to the inherent human condition. My relationships and experiences have taught me that everyone I know could be in counseling because we all experience the existential anxiety that comes from loneliness, aging, meaninglessness, death, and the choices we make. The realization that all people need help through their life journeys has made me want to fill that need to help and understand them. Through my education, research, and work in the realm of psychology, I have learned that the therapeutic relationship is the best tool we have to help others. It follows that I want to use my strong educational foundation to answer the call I feel for a career in counseling and helping others.

Specifically, I plan to serve as a counselor in the community and achieve success by implementing the lessons I will learn in the counseling program. After graduate school, I am interested in working in an applied setting, but I will also consider research with an open mind. In fact, I am interested in researching the important field of online counseling through your program. Also, your program’s research into relational-cultural theory and other multicultural issues in counseling is intriguing. Overall, I am eager to start graduate-level work and to have an opportunity to learn in an emerging research institution such as UTSA. In other words, I yearn to focus all my attention on learning about counseling and I am thrilled about the prospect of entering UTSA’s counseling program. In the end, I am hopeful that through my development at UTSA I can help others.
