1. Describe the students in the classroom:
Ms. Parker’s afternoon Pre-Kindergarten class consisted of 15 students (9 boys and 6 girls). These students were seen to enter the classroom in a much more energetic and cheerful manner as compared to the morning Pre-K class previously observed. As they entered, they were asked to hand-in homework and any notes from their parents to the teacher. The students were a little talkative, but still attentive and ready to learn.
2. Describe the purposes of the activity/lesson taught: In the first hour, the students went through their daily warm-up routine activities as a large group. These activities included calendar, weather, shapes, alphabet recognition, memory games and colors. The main activity of this hour was a worksheet in which the students were instructed to color the cowboy hats according to the labeled colors. The purpose of this activity was to mainly enable students to recognize the different colors and be able to read the names of the colors as well. The cowboy hats were used on the worksheet since the students were still studying about Texas.
3. Describe the classroom setting.
For the warm-up activities (Circle time), the students sat on a large rug which had each student’s name labeled. There were two names on each spot, since each spot

They were politely reminded that they need to listen carefully and let the teacher finish talking otherwise they will miss out important information and will end up making mistakes. One of the students rushed through the activity and did not color the cowboy hats too well. Ms. Parker quietly took him to her desk and explained to him that this kind of coloring does not look like a 5-year old boy coloring. She gave him another sheet and encouraged him to do a better job on this one. Other than this, I did not see any other problem behaviors in this

Classroom Setting One of the first things I noticed when walking into Mrs. Curl’s classroom was how pleasant a place it was. Not only was it clean, neat, organized, and colorful, but it also possessed a fun, child-friendly element that made it look like a place any kid would enjoy spending long periods of time in. Mrs. Curl would play music softly in the background at the beginning of her class when the children were doing educational busy-word to keep them occupied until everyone arrived and she was ready to begin the lessons. This improved the atmosphere tremendously as the music was, at times, soothing and at other times fun, kid-friendly tunes that got the kids excited and happy.…

Because of the upcoming science STTAR, my observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s fifth grade class this week was a little different than usual. The teachers switched classes from lunch until one thirty to better prepare the students for the test. In this way, they would learn the information through different teaching styles. This week’s task was about advice on the teaching profession. Some good advice was to stay organized and keep the students engaged.…

My Classroom Management Philosophy I believe that classroom management plays a major role in creating a successful classroom. A successful classroom must be a safe learning environment, offer positive encouragement to encourage students to make the right choices, set rules that are understood by the students, and creating responsible students who can take control over their own work. This type of classroom is a major goal of mine because I feel as though the students would really benefit. I am committed to creating a safe environment and creating positive reinforcement within my classroom.…

When it came to behavioral problems in the classroom, the teachers would very rarely address the inappropriate behavior of a the student, and instead would just give them a time-out type of punishment. Some children would have to move a clip with their name on it from a “paying attention, learning” board, to one reflecting their current attitude, “disruptive, not focused.” However, in this process, the student was never thoroughly spoken to about their actions, although, I must note again, that I was only present for a short period of time and while issues may have been addressed at a later date, they were not when I was…

Being able to go out and observe in a classroom is something that makes me so excited to be a teacher in the future. I was able to observe a classroom and learn many techniques to encourage learning. On October 11 I went to Discovery Elementary School to observe in Mrs. Hibma’s classroom. This was a 3rd grade classroom, and this interested me because I would love to teach 3rd grade. There were 27 students in the classroom, which I found to be a large classroom.…

The environment of a classroom is a very important factor in a child’s education and should include a variety of centers, equipment, and space. Ideally the classroom will provide the students with different learning tools and stimuli in an area that does not feel overcrowded or cluttered. Children should be provided with an environment that is not over crowded with too many students and not enough resources- something that can be difficult in certain school systems. Overall the indoor environment for learning is one of the most important aspects of a child’s educational experience. The class observed in this paper was located in Elon Elementary School.…
