Essay Comparing The Stolen Party And The Compound

The love of a parent is something that starts from the very second that you were born and makes a child the person they are all their lives. Parents can show love in many different ways, some are more obvious than others, however, no matter what ways they show it a parent's love for their child is inevitable. In both the book The Compound and the short story The Stolen Party there are multiple demonstrations of love from adult figures to the children; however, there are also adult figures in the text that do not show love to the children. Parents have many ways of showing their love and affection for their kids, one of those ways is by being supportive and being the shoulder to cry on when their child needs it. For example, a quote from the book The Compound The Compound, “Moms hand caressed my face. I went to the other side of the room. She followed. Both her hands went to my face, holding me”(Bodeen 177). By holding him when he was in a time of need, Eli’s mom is showing that she is there for him and that she will help and be there for him. Also a quote from The Stolen Party, “and then she noticed her mother’s hand on her shoulder. Instinctively, she pressed herself against her mother’s body”(Heker 5). …show more content…
A quote from The Stolen Party, “Senora Ines didn’t look in the pink bag. Nor did she look in the blue bag. Instead she rummaged in her purse. In her hand appeared two bills… Rosaura felt her arms stiffen, stick close to her body”(Hecker 5). Senora Ines did not take Rosaura’s feelings into consideration and made Rosaura feel lesser. “I didn’t know any more about the man than the general public might find out by reading his biography”(Bodeen 59).
