(Hook) Some people in the world are flat out crazy; they are so crazy it would seem that they need a mental facility. (Authors & Characters) Zaroff, from “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, and Montresor, from “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe, are both a perfect example of this craziness. (Cites The Stories) In “The Most Dangerous Game,” Zaroff gets bored hunting animals, so he moves to an island, known as Ship Trap Island, to put human life in jeopardy of death. Montresor, from “The Cask of Amontillado,” is seeking revenge on his former friend, so he kills him to fulfill his vengeance. Both of these characters are not satisfied with their life at the time, so they fix that problem. The way they fix this problem happens to be the mad idea of killing

Zaroff says his game has to be able to reason, but Rainsford does not understand so he says, “‘But no animal can reason,’ objected Rainsford. ‘My dear fellow,’ said the general, ‘there is one that can .’ ‘But you can’t mean-’ gasped Rainsford. ‘And why not?’ ‘I can’t believe you are serious, General Zaroff. This is a grisly joke.’ ‘Why should I not be serious? I am speaking of hunting.’ ‘Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder.’ The general laughed with entire good nature.” (Connell 64) (Explanation of Example 1) This quote shows General Zaroff is extremely crazy because he thinks cold blood murder is just another daily activity. He has absolutely no problem telling Rainsford of his activities, and is impervious to his horrified reaction. Zaroff is actually quite proud of his craziness. (Transition) Montresor is no better than Zaroff in the craziness department, infact it seems as though their brains are verbatim. (Introduce Example 2) Montresor’s former friend Fortunato has done many wrongs to him. Montresor the biggest supporter of this idea, but he showed his craziness when he went to a whole new level of revenge . All he could do was think about the revenge
