The “Red Scare of the 1950s” has often been considered to have quite a lot of resemblance to the “Salem Witch Trials” that took place in Massachusetts. In the story The Crucible, the character Mary Warren gives in the fear when she is being accused by Abigail and the other girls. Mary Warren is one of the many examples in the playwright The Crucible of people who caved into their fear. Similarly, the “Red Scare” had many examples of fear leading to hysteria. One such example is on October 20, 2015, when actors, actresses, writers, and directors from Hollywood were brought in the court and were questioned about communism. Many people believed that there were productions in Hollywood that were pro-communist, which made many people believe that there were communists in Hollywood. The people brought in from Hollywood were questioned, and pressured to turn in anyone they thought was a communist. As a result, many people were blacklisted and banned from working; consequently, without a job people couldn’t support themselves.
