In both “The Breakfast Club” and “The Bicycle” there is a strong central theme of rebellion, resentment, dreams and aspirations in life, and living dreams through others. Hannah shares similarities with all five of these characters. Both Hannah and Claire are trying to find out where they belong in life and are trying to accept themselves in life. Hannah and Andrew both have parental figures in their life who are attempting to live their own dreams through them, while totally ignoring what they want and aspire to be. Hannah and John are both rebellious in regards to authority, with Hannah’s reason being her aunt’s pressure on her and John’s reason being unknown but hinted at being because of his parents. Hannah and Allison are both alike in regards to feeling like they are outcasts in society and blaming themselves for it, while in reality they are the last reason they are “different”. Hannah and Brian are also very alike when it comes to the ability or lack thereof in the department of standing up for themselves. Tante Rose isn’t comparable to any of the five main characters in “The Breakfast Club” but she is almost a carbon copy of Andrew’s father, Mr.Clark. Both Tante Rose and Mr. Clark try and succeed at living their own lives through the people they are suppose to be molding and raising which causes the main conflicts in both stories, the detention in “The Breakfast Club” and Hannah riding the bicycle in “The
