Patricks first intensions were only to take her out a few times but as he gets to learn more about her and spend time with her he realizes he wants something more. Kate finds out he is getting paid to “date” her and she doesn’t talk to him for a few days. When she reads her poem out loud during class it reveals a new side of her that no ones seen before. “I hate the way you talk to me, And the way you cut your hair, I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare, I hate your big dumb combat boots, And the way you read my mind, I hate you so much that it makes me sick, It even makes me rhyme, I hate the way you're always right, I hate it when you lie, I hate it when you make me laugh, Even worse when you make me cry, I hate the way you're not around, And the fact that you didn't call, But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you, Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all”. People can change with the right motivation, like Patrick in the end of the movie.
Between the movie and the play you see many different types of deception. The era probably has some effect on that but it still shows how know matter what time period it is people will still lie. It doesn’t matter what way you choose to treat people, but they will react to your actions and sometimes you will like them and sometimes you wont.
