Essay Comparing Prometheus Myth, Genesis, And Paradise Lost

For the last two weeks, after reading the Prometheus Myth, Genesis, and Paradise Lost the questions that have been prompted are: “At what point have you sought too far in the pursuit of knowledge?”, “Is all that you have lost comparable to all that you have gained in the pursuit?”, and ”Why is a woman depicted as both a bringer of salvation and damnation?”. In all three of the readings, the most common underlying theme dealt with the fine line between the attainment of knowledge and power. Prompting me to ask the fourth question of, “Did Zeus/God go to far or did the lesser beings ergo humans or archangels?”.
Beginning with the Prometheus Myth and Genesis, in each depiction we witness the humans disobeying Zeus/God’s will either knowingly or unknowingly and as a result witness both the good and the bad. By disobeying their will the lesser beings were able to come into knowledge no longer were they ignorant or prey. They had changed, allowing them to both clothe, feed, defend, and reason themselves. Yet in doing so, they emulated beings far from their station, which there lies the problem and answers question one. In the pursuit

These women were essentially the calm before the storm, but why women from which I thought that each were made to control greed, although be it a backwards way. God made Eve for Adam to soothe his wanting and Pandora as a gift to Epimetheus, yet what was there to control Eve’s wandering which ultimately lead her to being tricked or Pandora’s curiosity which brought chaos to the humans. The literary form and genre of the book of Genesis is prose: biblical and historical narrative. Biblical narratives in Genesis show that “God is active in His world” and these narratives typically “chose certain events to reveal God.” For instance, this element is apparent when the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, granting her the promise of descendants (Gen 16:10). In the same manner, this element is reinforced in subsequent chapters (Gen 17:19; 18:10). In describing this book, it is significant to note that most of the characters in the narrative are flawed.…

The Prediction of Woman in the Works of Hesiod and Genesis The works of Hesiod, Works and Days and Theogony, and Genesis both explain the origin of the first woman and her role on Earth. However, in Works and Days and Theogony by Hesiod, Pandora was portrayed as a different kind of race than mankind because she was created from water and clay as a way for Zeus to take revenge on man for having fire. Therefore, Pandora serves as the balance to the good when she opened the jar that releases the misery and disease onto mankind. On the contrary, Genesis predicts Eve as Adam’s partner in the beginning since she was created from his rib.…

The story of Pandora is one of the most well-known Greek myths in the present day. Though widely misinterpreted in modern culture, Hesiod’s dramatic image of Pandora breaking the seal on a jar full of evils still fuels many debates. Explanations of her character, her motives, and what particular aspects of the story may represent vary widely between readers. Even with such a broad variety of interpretations, few are so forgiving as to say that Pandora had innocent motives. The article The Mind of a Bitch: Pandora's Motive and Intent in the Erga, written by B. M. Wolkow, explores the traits bestowed on Pandora by the gods and investigates her aim in opening the jar given to her by Zeus.…

The stories of Pandora in Hesiod and “fall” in Genesis exhibit the divine-human relationship between the God(s) and its creation’s effect of sinfulness and immorality toward their annihilation. However, Genesis perspective of monotheistic as the one and only divine power, compare to a polytheistic representation in Hesiod - where balance is spread between each of the gods. Genesis is able to explicitly present each side’s choices. Although, both Hesiod and Genesis display immortal sin, the monotheistic structure in Genesis is more compelling at explaining the emergence of the evils of the world because it demonstrates both divine and mortal choices, while Hesiod’s account is less compelling because the polytheistic world shows the immorality…

Darwin's theory of evolution was based on information that he collected during his voyage around the world in a ship that was called the HMS Beagle. He stated that other animals of a certain species that had an advantage within a certain location survived whereas those with a less of an advantage did not survive.
