If everyone is equal it shows no uniqueness. Anthem and Harrison Bergeron are both dystopian stories. They have many similarities and differences such as love, wanting to be there self, technology, etc. Although “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr and Anthem by Ayn Rand are both pieces of dystopian literature, their portrayal of (love/technology) differs greatly. In the novel Anthem love is different from the novel Harrison Bergeron. In Anthem, Equality and Liberty love is illegal because of the society’s rules. “For men are forbidden to take notice of women and women are forbidden to take notice of men (Rand 38). The quote explains why Equality and Liberty can’t have the same love George and Hazel has in Harrison Beregon. They are forbidden to even look at each other and men and women are separated in the novel Anthem. In the novella Harrison Bergeron, you can have a family. “It was in that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son Harrison away (Vonnegut 1). It shows in the novel that George can have a family which isn’t allowed in Anthem. This is showing they have family love. The next point explains how the technology differs in the novels. …show more content…
In Anthem the technology isn't advance as Harrison Bergeron's technology. "We blew out the candle" (Rand 59). The quote explains how advanced Anthem's technology is. In Harrison Bergeron the technology is more advanced because they have electricity and in Anthem they still use candles. In the novella Harrison Bergeron, the technology was way more advanced than Anthem's technology. "On the television were ballerinas" (Vonnegut 1). It is showing their technology is more advanced than Anthem's technology. It is showing they had electricity in Harrison Bergeron. Those are two great points describing how the two novels
