On the other hand, I had much more freedom writing the Think Piece because I did not have to worry about content or structure as much. While I had much more freedom writing my Think Piece I felt restricted in the language I was using because I am naturally inclined to write more eloquently and use lofty words, but the Rhetorical Situation is different because I am writing for a popular audience rather than an academic audience. On the other hand, I enjoyed writing for a popular audience because I could worry less about structure and put a larger focus on the content. In the Think Piece I felt like I was actually interacting and talking with the audience, while in the Extended Short Course Essay it felt like I was talking at someone rather than talking to someone. While on the topic, I feel like because I felt comfortable with the audience in the Think Piece I was able to keep them more engaged, making my writing more energetic compared to the Extended Short Course Essay which tended to sound more mundane and monotonous. Although, to be energetic means that I have to constantly bring in new ideas, while in the Extended Short Course Essay I am encouraged to repeat myself in order to drill my main ideas into the reader’s head. In the Think Piece, I also enjoyed being able to use expletives and break rules that are used normally in academic pieces. Also, with the Think Piece I can feel comfortable with going on a tangent in my thinking, while in the Extended Short Course Essay all of the points I make must relate back to my proposition. The advantage to the Extended Short Course Essay is that I can delve deeply into whatever I want to talk about, with the Think Piece I must keep most of my topics to a certain surface level
