Many believed it was their patriotic duty to join and help their country, others believed the war provided valuable opportunities for work and it would be easier to gain experience so when they returned home for peace it would be easier to gain work. The Conscription:
As a new Prime Minister rose to watch over Australia's war the excitement and idea of war had died down and so with no willing volunteers, men or women, the Prime Minister decided that the best way to help in the war was to force a conscription. The Prime Minister thought of the conscription as a great idea but many refused it and it even lead to a dividing of the labor party.
