Skagit Valley has both freshwater and saltwater beaches, with access to rivers, lakes, bays and other bodies of water. You’ll find sandy shores perfect for sand castles and rocky beaches with great places for wading or enjoying the sunset while enjoying a late dinner in the summertime. If you’re the type of beach-goer who enjoys harvesting clams and oysters, don’t forget to check local laws and regulations regarding safe harvesting, licensing and limit requirements. Here’s a good resource from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife about pubic clam and oyster beaches. Many beaches don’t allow fires, either, so unless you see signs that indicate fires are allowed, don’t risk it.

Cap Sante Park
One of the most popular parks in Skagit, Cap Sante is rich with history and geology, and has some incredible views of Fidalgo Bay. Found on Cap Sante Peninsula, the northernmost tip of Fidalgo Island, Cap Sante Park has options for short hikes and stunning sunsets, with sea and other wildlife visible year-round. You’ll also find unbelievable panoramic views of the San Juan Islands and other natural features.

Cranberry Lake
South of Rosario Park, across Deception Pass, you’ll find Cranberry Lake. This large lake has a phenomenal swimming area, and is known as a great spot for fishing. To the west is the ocean, so you can enjoy the features of saltwater and freshwater simultaneously. Because of the lake’s location and proximity to the sea, the waters are typically warmer than you’d find in the water just a couple of hundred feet away in the
