Essay About My Writing Style

Improved Essays
This semester I have learned much about my own writing style and how it can be perfected. There’s many new techniques and little tweaks that have and will help me with my writing. My papers from the beginning of the year will prove that I have fixed many major and minor problems in my assignments and they will stick with me for as long as I am able to write. I have learned many things about my writing style that I had not noticed before this class. For instance, I realized how much I used the word “you” or “we” in my writing without even thinking about it. My essay and assignments have also opened my eyes to how much I put in my own opinion into the essays. The hardest essay for me to write was the report because I was having so much trouble just stating the facts. I have noticed these …show more content…
The most valuable thing I believe that I have learned this year is parenthetical citations and work cited pages. Before this class I had no clue how to do either of these tasks. I did not even know you had to include them in your essay, I thought the URL for where I got the information was enough. Now I know how to layout a work cited page and this will save me from plagiarizing. Another skill that has grown is my grammar. My grammar is still not perfect, but comparing all my essays together it shows that it has improved immensely. This can help me in the future so I will not make a fool of myself in front of my future boss. I will sound educated and reliable, which is a great way to appear on paper. The last thing that will help me from here on out is time management. Before this class I procrastinated constantly and would always do the work the night before it was due. But with this class I knew I could not do that, if I procrastinated I would not have gotten the assignment done on time. This has taught me a great skill to have and being prepared and efficient is a lot less

The differences between the style of writing that I do to friends and family and the style of writing to instructors are quite distinct. When writing to family and friends, it’s much more informal and not nearly as structured as it would be if I were to write to instructors. It would be similar to how I would talk to them in person and I would use words that would be deemed informal to more professional type people. When I ever do have to write to professionals such as instructors, it would be structured as if I was writing a report or an essay. Being formal when writing to people such as instructors or supervisors is necessary to seem more professional yourself.…

Style Analysis The style of this writing is very important because it is going to set the tone for the piece of writing, if it's going to be a serious piece of writing, a goofy piece of writing, or a informative piece of writing. The style of this piece of writing makes it seem as if the speaker was referring to the past memories that she has in her mind and then showing how those events has affected her. The diction of this writer is very interesting because it is as if she was talking to a companion of hers. This piece of writings style makes it seem as if you were there as the events as they unfolded.…

Transitioning to a university such as Wayne State University from Utica High School, I was not aware of the diverse writings that I would cross paths with during my journey of being here. I have only been at Wayne for a semester now, so this would be my first English class in college. When I first began the course, I believed and had high hopes that the class would be very bland; bland in a way that the coursework would be topics I had already learned and wrote about in the past years. However, to my surprise, the class was the complete opposite.…

I learned how to properly incorporate dialogue into my paragraphs. I also learned that you need to take in consideration the audience reading the paper. By looking at your memory from an outside perspective you are making sure to include others who are unfamiliar with the topic. This can apply across all my other writings because now I am more aware of the reader. I also learned good writing differs from style of papers, in a memoir it is acceptable to use I, you, me… which is not the same for informative or persuasive essay.…

“We have an obligation and a responsibility to be investing in our students and our schools” (Foster). This statement is one of the many famous political expressions made by President Barack Obama; this one in particular was one from a speech in April 2011. This assertion made by our President creates a refection of my first and failed experience in Expository Writing at Roger Williams. My teacher was not invested in my education at all. When my struggles in class first began in the fall semester of 2015, I relayed them to my professor and he suggested to go to the writing center for help.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
