Essay About My Writing Style

When it comes to writing; I have never really had a preferred method or process. For the most part I usually just try to force ideas out onto paper in a somewhat organized manner. I have always had a serious problem with procrastination and staying on subject, so if I do not find myself interested in what I am learning I always seem to zone out. Even when it comes to subjects I enjoy writing has never captivated my interest, and when I do manage to write something it is always terribly disorganized and hardly makes any sense. As of this year I have been working at paying closer attention in class and working on my writing skills as a whole. I really want to get back in touch with the part of me that used to love writing and I think this course is a great start.

I have realized I relate writing to discomfort. Most of my memories of writing have always been stuck in a desk at school staring at a blank wall. I was never allowed to listen to music or

I usually prefer peace and quiet as I get distracted very easily by most things, but certain types of music help me to work very diligently. I am most comfortable in my bedroom but I like the couch in my living room, as long as no one is home. I like writing on my computer, but I do my rough drafts on paper because I am constantly getting distracted by social media, games, applications and various other things on my laptop. Another reason I like writing my rough drafts on paper is because I find it a lot easier to revise my work as I copy it onto my computer, and I can listen to music without getting distracted. When working on my rough draft I usually prefer pen, mainly because I am left handed and with pencils the side of my hand is always black by the end of my draft. I try not to worry too much about mistakes in my rough draft, because I always proofread and make revision notes off to the side for myself when I am copying

I don’t like to work on my bed because it makes me want to give up and go to sleep. I also tend to work with some music playing and more often than not, a cup of coffee is with me. I typically work on the rough draft sporadically the day before it is due and sometimes that means also late into the night. If I can, as in not wait until the night before, I like to give myself breaks so I do not get into a writing rut. Sometimes I will come back to the paper later even after I think I have finished it and add things too it.…

In regards to my writing process, there have been some central strategies that I have developed over time and some strategies that I have had for as long as I can remember. For example, one skill that I have developed from high school has been to annotate, mark up, and take notes throughout my readings. I found that taking notes really helps me, not only to remember what I read but to go back and be able to point out something in my reading easily. In addition, it helped me understand the readings better.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

The most crucial step of my writing processes is letting my mind go wild and my fingers move freely. Whenever I write anything, I always let myself write whatever is on my mind at that exact second. Even if it doesn’t make 100% sense or isn’t exactly on topic, I’ll type it out. When I was writing my essay, I didn’t stop to fix anything until the very end. When I finished writing, I looked for mistakes.…

Have You Developed a System of Writing That Works Most of The Time I really have not looked up different styles of writing let alone realized there was so many different types of it. My method is not necessarily a method per se, I have always for the longest time just wrote down as if I was speaking to someone. That to me was where my biggest praise came from, that I was able to write with such voice and was able to emulate my presence through the pages. When writing for an essay there is a period where I read and reread the question to gather all the information that is needed. Once the question is fully understood, I try to explain myself in full detail.…

I find this part hard because there is times where I don’t know what I need to change to make the writing better. Usually after the first draft I get stuck and don’t know how what I have to change or add. Something that I do like is to get feedback from other people. Some people would argue that getting feedback from others is not too good but most of the time it works for me. I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
