At the start of high school, I was a completely different person than I am now in many ways. As a freshman it was hard for me to get to know new classmates in a new environment, a different school layout, rules, scheduling, classes and teachers. It was easier for me to stick with same old friends. This was not a bad thing, but I wanted to make new friends and try new things so no one would think of me as an outcast and in an effort to better myself in high school. In the time since my first play, I have given a speech to my entire grade, teachers, principal, and a guest speaker about commitment and how it relates to adulthood and the characteristic of agency on my school’s stage. Today I have continued to improve my ability to perform and I now have a larger role in this year’s play, Dracula, as Seward, in which I have monologues and intense scenes with a wide range of characters. He is a character that displays different personalities throughout the play, such as a crazy doctor and a passionate admirer. I plan to pursue this interest in acting for the remainder of my high school years, and maybe even after I graduate.
