My Moments
I have many fond memories of my childhood, but some of my greatest memories are from the past few years. One of the most amazing moments of my life so far was spent with a few of my close friends. The three of us were bored late one night, so we decided to take a roadtrip to a truckstop. On the way back the car was getting low on gas, which caused us to stop at a gas station. As I stood filling my gas tank I got to experience the morning in full; the sky had just started to turn blue and there was no noise anywhere nearby. It was unforgettably serene and peaceful. The thing that made me happiest was sharing that moment with my two close friends. The main thing that I learned about myself from that was how important my friends are to me.

Robotics relies more on communication than some people would imagine seeing as you have to negotiate alliances with other teams. Throughout the competition I was responsible for talking with other teams and making our team known. When alliances were being picked for finals we were chosen by one of the teams I was “courting” to be their partner. Developer has been a very beneficial strength in helping family and friends with computers. My grandmother is always having issues with her phone or some device and she comes to me for help. Taking the time to explain and go through everything has allowed her to learn about how to fix things on her own. I have extensively used my strength of being an includer in my last year of robotics. We had around seven new members during my senior year who were unsure of their place on the team. It was due to this strength that I could notice when they felt excluded and invite them to help with one of the ongoing

Rube Goldberg and Beyond As a High School Physics student in my Junior year, I was placed on a team and asked to build a Rube Goldberg machine. His vision of taking everyday household items and making them into crazy inventions that helped solve simple problems like ringing a bell, opening a door or moving an object, inspired me that I could create a Rube Goldberg machine.…

During the Mt. Everest team simulation, we learned quite a bit about what it means to be on a team. When climbing Mt. Everest in both a simulation and in real life you really depend on your team to do what is necessary to reach a goal. This could be a simple personal goal (such as the photographer to stay at camp 1 and 2 an extra night) or a larger goal that is shared by multiple people on the team (the leader and marathoner’s goal of reaching the summit). Our team had achievements and failures, all of the failures in hindsight could’ve been easily conquered if our team biggest hurdle was overcome in the beginning, communication. We had strengths that helped us along the way.…

Collaboration has played a major role both personally and for my community. My first experience with collaborations is when I joined a FIRST robotics team. As you can imagine, I had to work with teammates of every kind in order to produce a final product. However, the more I became involved with the team, the more I started working with people outside the team. For example, the team and I started several new fund raisers that helped promote community collaboration.…
