Essay About My Favourite Sister

Decent Essays
If you ask me who my favorite person in the world is, I’ll always answer Juliet Mercado. My younger sister was born two years after me and she will always be my best friend. She’s basically a younger and female version of myself. When people first meet us, they always ask if we’re twins. I don’t know if it’s because she looks older than she is or because we communicate in such a fluent way. It’s kind of like those movies where the twins can talk just by looking at each other. But, Julie is so much smarter and works so much harder than I do. I don’t really like to let her know that or tell other people, but it’s true. I’ve had so many people tell me it was odd how close we were. Our relationship doesn’t come off as the stereotypical brother and sister who constantly bicker and honestly, it never was. We’ve always been best friends. Julie and I would spend almost every day together. We have stupid inside jokes and I can bring her to tears of laughter with a single …show more content…
I was constantly giving her advice, helping her with homework, making sure she was ok, and just being there. I took on a fatherly role, even though she was just two years younger. I didn’t have to, I could have let her work through this on her own or shut down and developed a drinking habit of my own. I chose to overcome this situation that I was put in, but I didn’t know how Julie would get through it. The next few months, I was constantly worrying about my sister. I didn’t want her to break down in school. I didn’t want her to give up. I made sure she was ok, that she got through this. I did what I could to make sure she was eating and sleeping well. I only had my permit at the time, but I drove her to appointments for her glasses and made sure we both got to school. Before this, I never really knew how to look after anyone else, but this situation had me caring for my sister in a new way. I wasn’t going to let anything disrupt her from

Two Sisters’ Perspectives “Why I live at the P.O.” by Eudora Welty is written in first person. The narrator, called Sister in the story, seems to use this work to express her feelings about the unjust treatment she has endured from her family. She also wants to justify her quick decision to move away from home. She hopes that her readers will see the mistreatment she has endured and applaud her for having the courage to separate herself from her family. If the story was told from Stella- Rondo’s point of view, she, just as Sister, most likely would try to justify her actions and get the readers to take her side.…

I interviewed my seventy-five year old grandpa Donnie, researched the Voyles lineage book that my grandma Arlene helped compile, and talked with my dad in order to find out more about my family’s history. According to Grandpa Donnie, it all began in 1759 when Jacob Voils, his wife, and his four sons landed in Port Charleston from Wales. Jacob was a poor man and could not afford the family’s way to Charleston. Desperate, he made a deal with the ship’s captain to indenture his oldest son William Voils as a crew hand for four years in exchange for the family’s way. Upon regaining his freedom, William furiously changed the spelling of his last name to Voyles to break all ties from his father Jacob.…

It became frustrating at times because we were always placed in the same school and programs up until high school. At times people wouldn’t even get the chance to remember our names and instead call us “Twins”. My sister, Tiara and I always hated it. It’s frustrating knowing that no matter what I do; I would never be seen as myself rather than “the twins”. In school we would try to do different hairstyles, wear different things even if we both liked it, just so people wouldn’t think we were the same.…

It was the end of another long school day when I first heard those words. My kindergartener self and my then first grade sister were squabbling in the backseat of our grandmother’s car about something so insignificant that I can’t even recall what it was. What my grandmother told us has stayed with us forever, “Be nice to each other. That’s the only sister you have.” These words were often repeated, also by our mother, although in a more exasperated manner when our voices were raised in a fight, and holds true today.…

A big issue for me was the fact that, even though Julie was abused by her father, there had to be a way to play the side of Julie that it’s hurt and not angry. My first instinct was to play fear. I thought that Julie kept this fear for her father over the years. When I found out that Julie more than scare was hurt finally could have an overall vision of what my main purpose was. She is there at the hospital because she needs to face her father before he passes away, she knows that this is her last chance to close that door and start a new page, even though she will not admit it Child abuse is a big deal no matter what it is wrong and there are no excuses for this, nevertheless a big deal for me was to find the way of showing that hurt adult that Julie is.…

When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”.…

Why are you in College? “You must go to college to succeed in life.” This quote is something my parents would regularly say to me as a kid growing up. I have been told that there is a difference between calling someone your sister once you have joined an organization but the ones who are really your sisters are the people who you have been through something with. A Sisterhood is an array of feelings, emotions, and connections. It can't be described in one certain way or by one word. Yes, it is challenging but no one ever said that it would be easy. Sisters are there to pick each other up when they are down, and we are only as strong as our weakest link.…
