My experience in high school has made me realize that some subjects are going to be is challenging, people are not going to be nice, and that responsibility is the key to success.
High school has changed in me several ways. One of them was the ability to do things I thought I could not accomplish. I always doubted myself because some things were so hard for me to understand. Since I really wanted to achieve this goal, I started to study and stay after school for more help. I studied and I practiced it nonstop. By the time I had to take my geometry SOL, I was ready and I felt more confident on taking it. This taught me to not doubt myself and that everything is possible if I set my mind to it. Also, some of my students were never before educated in English. I had to provide the expectations and structure for my classroom myself. I had to let students know what expectations I had and what consequences I was willing to enforce when the students did not follow my guidelines. I learned that an exciting lesson plan wasn’t enough to hold their attention, although it is a good start. For one thing, it’s very hard to be exciting every day.…

I have had many students say I do not want to try because it is to hard. As the material gets more difficult and I want my students to become independent thinkers like Common Core calls for, it is important that they become persistent. Moving forward I believe that I must model this for them and give them examples where this will be applicable in real…

It is true that students have to make that connection themselves often times, but it is impossible if there is no connection to make. If I am going to spend so much time and put so much effort into school, I should be learning things that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. I should have classes that will help me to broaden my mind and think in new ways. I want my grades to reflect on the connections that I am making, not the amount of information that I can temporarily cram into my head before a test. Schools seem to only want students to do well on tests to reflect well on the school district, but they don 't seem to care as much about the students as…

An example when I faced a major challenge was when coming to the United States. Going to school quickly became a nightmare for me. I was uncomfortable with the fact that others were ahead of me and were able to communicate at a higher level than I was. At a very young age I began to think of myself as someone who couldn’t grasp something simple as speaking the language I was expected to. I was assigned extra help and had to constantly take exams that measured my level of learning and how well I was making progress.…

Perennialism and Essentialism philosophy demonstrate the submissive side of students where learning is just completely left to the teachers telling students exactly what to think. I strongly believe that you can tell somebody all day long that something is bad for them, but unless they see it for themselves, they won’t truly be able to understand. I don’t believe philosophies like Perennalism or Essentialism should be accepted in a learning system. Nor do I believe that it should be completely up to students to teach themselves either. Young children need someone to look up to and also someone that will teach them guidance.…

High school is just a long stretch of schooling that most kids don 't care about. I 've thought pretty strongly about where I needed to be when I grow up, and that I need to pay attention in high school. It 's very tough to stay on track because there 's so much going on in life, and frequently I forget the difference between having fun and improving my future. A Lot of knowledge is pushed on students, teachers and parents expect kids to be organized with everything. Especially this year, junior year has just started and it 's already been tougher than my freshman and sophomore year combined.…
