Internet: A Serious Public Health Threat

The internet plays an important role in daily life of the majority of people, without it we would be nowhere. It was first funded by the Department of Defense in the 1960s with help of ARPANET, a company that used several computers on one network. Today we have the internet at the tips of our fingers walking down a street. As cool as that may be people are spending excessive amounts of time on the internet which South Korea and China have done studies to show that internet addiction is becoming a serious public health threat.
Internet addiction has become a trending issue in the United States. We have gone into research and treatment, but the government has no response to this issue. People use the internet for numerous things, social media at the top of the list. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, people are becoming rather obsessive. We have the Facebook Moms that sit on their phone or computers and comment and share everything that they agree or disagree to. Twitter is there for people to complain and share everything they do in

We abuse the internet to get out of awkward situations, gossip about people, and check to see what is going on in the world. As we misuse the internet for many hours a day to get out of awkward situations and gossip we lose our communication skills. It is easier to just pull our computers out of our pockets and escape into the cyber world then it is to hold a conversation with a person standing in a same room as you. We begin to lose those skills because it starts to become so natural and hibituatial. When things start to become a habit it can sometimes become a compulsion, which can ultimately lead to OCD.
