Agriculture was being transformed as well. Scientist and farmers began to cross pollinate to create new breeds of plants. Fertilizers were being applied to plants to kill the insects that ate them. Plants genetic structure was being modified to ensure survival. These changes provided more food to an already abundant society. Food being so abundant has led society to make poor decisions. Sugar is in almost all processed foods. These sugars are contributing to metabolic syndrome. This was not a problem until the past few decades. Now. It is a public health crisis. People’s bodies cannot process the large quantities of sugar that we ingest. Diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity are prevalent in society during this time. The guidelines that people are directed to live by are incorrect. The government and food industry are setting people up for failure. Filling people with grain helps the agriculture industry which lines the pockets of politicians. It is a vicious cycle that results in an increasing number of unhealthy Americans.
