Jamestown was a very fun place filled with lots of problems. Colonist died because of disease, famine, and indians. They had moved to Jamestown to find a permanent settlement. They were very hopeful to find their first permanent settlement in Jamestown (Roden 49). A lot of colonist died because of disease and famine. A few of them were killed by indians. So there could have been many more reason to death besides just disease, famine, and indians. This is only a few ways how colonist died. At this time there were lots of diseases going around in Jamestown. There was disease because they had no doctors to give them medicine for a while. According to Blanton “ Disease in the early Jamestown’s position at the salt-fresh water transition.” There were many diseases going around in Jamestown at this time. They water became salty and made it bad to drink and grow with(Blanton 55). With lots of the brackish water there were no fish to eat and no fresh water to farm.Blanton says “Fish are present in local streams, but only in the spring and early summer.” During the winter they had little food. In winter about 110 died of famine(Fausz 63). They also had lots of drought in Jamestown. Since they went in the rivers they had no fresh water. They starved without fresh water and fish. So many colonist died because of famine. The colonist in Jamestown did not exactly have the best relationship with the indians. There were at least 7 people that died because of indians. According to Fausz “2 died in first Indian attack on Fort James At least 3 more died in Indian ambush.” They hoped to trade with the indians but it didn’t go as well as they hoped (Hume 61). They could have made friends with the indians but didn’t. There is no way of knowing why else indians killed them. There could be lots of other reasons why indians killed.
