When comparing the technological world of today with that of hundreds of years ago, it is amazing how much technology has advanced and evolved into essential aspects of everyday life. Fifty years ago, inventions such as electricity, railways, and the internet were non-existent. It is hard to believe that in today’s day in age, everyone is so dependent on these creations. They have connected the world in ways that were thought to be impossible hundreds of years ago. The world went from having no electricity, railways, or internet, to being reliant on these inventions every single day. It is what provides everything in the world the power to work and run properly. Electricity is something that is present every hour of every day. The world today has become completely dependent on what electricity provides. For example, electricity provides the world the power to run a light bulb, television and a telephone. These are only a small percentage of what electricity provides the world with, however, they are rather important in the present world. Light bulbs are used every day to provide people with light. Though often taken for granted, light bulbs are essential to everyday living. Before electricity, the only light source that was available was natural light from the sun or moon and fire. These sources of light are rather inconvenient because they are not available all hours of the day. However, due to the advancement of technology, light is now conveniently available at all times. This has impacted society because it allows more time for working as well as personal activities. Working, as well as personal activities, are now possible to do at night because of the light provided from the light bulb. Televisions are also a common electrically powered appliance that are often used in today’s society. Railways are one of the earliest modes of transportation. It was one of the first vehicles in which was able to transport people far and long distances in a short amount of time. Before railways, people had to walk in order to get from one location to another. There had not yet been an invention to make travelling easier. Due to this fact, people often used to stay where they were and never ventured out too far. It was all just too much to handle and too difficult to endure. Railways changed all of this. Migration is one of the biggest impacts that the Railway has had on society. Since people are now able to travel long distance without doing much work and in a shortened amount of time, travelling has become extremely popular and common. People were now able to move to different cities and start filling up land that was otherwise barren and uninhabited. This migration due to railways, lead to the creation of big cities in which are still around today. The railway also made a positive impact on the economy. Building the railways needed workers so it created a lot of job opportunities for people who may have been previously unemployed. The amount of people who rode the railway was immense, so this must have brought in money as well, resulting in a flourishing and stable economy.
