What is being American?
“Thank God for immigrants. They are the only ones who have any personality left. They still allow themselves emotions, judgments, and all those qualities that we are “evolving” past. I don’t know what they’re saying, but I can tell they’re speaking honestly.” (Collin Quinn). We would be a much better, stronger and united country, because honestly, America isn’t what it used to be. During the last four decades, the American culture has changed substantially, and unfortunately, it hasn’t all been for the better. We are supposedly a free country, yet we as Americans don’t exercise all our rights given to us. For example, when it comes to our right to vote, American voters are ranked as one of the least active in the world. If we are given the freedom to choose who we want for our president, why don’t we take advantage? We might not think that our vote will make a difference, but it most definitely does. We can’t allow our country to be run by people who might try to destroy our country, we must be the judges, and stand up for what is morally right. If every American realized how much of a difference they could make, just by being involved with the changes occurring in our country. …show more content…
We see what is going on in the world and are emotionless with no judgment (as Collin also states in his quote). To top it off, when people from different parts of the world bring up facts of our death culture, we get offended and tell them to go back from where they came from, and deny the cold truth. I am not trying to attack the American culture, or trying to make it seem like there aren’t any good American values, but I just believe that these are some serious issues that must be
