In this quote, she explains that the American Dream is having the ability to create the dream in your own terms. But, that’s all it is, a dream. There really is no such thing. It is differentiated in the minds of every person, so therefore is not a specific goal for everyone to have. Is it possible? Yes and no. It all depends on the person, their specific goal, and access to required resources. With some sort of college degree, you almost always have a better shot at higher paying jobs. “The U.S. has been transformed from a manufacturing-based economy to an economy based on knowledge, and the importance of a college education today can be compared to that of a high school education forty years ago.” (McGuire, 1) Times have changed and college is now an extreme factor on the amount of money you could be making in the future.
