Essay: A Career As A Teacher's Assistant

I am currently a senior honors student at Bowie State University and have been a part of its honors program since August 2014. As an honor student, I am held to the curriculum of sustaining above a 3.3 grade point average and obtaining over 200 hours community service. I also had the privilege of partaking in events related to the program and attend monthly meetings. This year I was granted the opportunity of partaking in research to discover new cancer inhibiting macromolecules under the supervision of my chemistry professor Dr. Bonsu. I have been working with Dr. Bonsu since my Spring Semester in 2017, where I was assigned the task of researching new antiviral medications. Nevertheless, it was worthwhile because I gained experience in analyzing cultures and tissue samples, mixing chemical solutions, and ordering store supplies. After I gained experience as a Lab Assistant I accordingly became a Teacher’s Assistant for two of my professors on campus. As a Teacher’s Assistant it was my duty to assist the professor with classroom instruction, mentoring/tutoring students, creating quizzes and exams, record keeping, and other miscellaneous projects. Conversely, being a teacher’s assistant allowed me to aid students in seeing their own potential, which was rewarding within itself. This same passion and drive to help others led me to become a youth counselor at the University of California, Riverside. As a youth counselor, I had to supervise, discipline, and interact with children from low income areas understand the importance of pursuing your dreams and getting a great education. All of these experiences I have gained while being enrolled at Bowie State University has aided me in progressing in my academic career, and I could not be all the more
